Connie Kroskin Fine art paintings and photography inspired by nature
Open First Thursday's in the Art's District. Northrup King Building, Gallery 367, 5-9 PM. See you there!

How long does it take to do a painting?
Most of them are done in about 10-25 hours, the bigger or more detailed ones can take longer.

Do you work from a picture?
Yes, I work from my own photography. I may do some work on it in Photoshop, sometimes I’ll substitute colors, and edit details. Then I set my laptop next to my drawing table and work from that.

Sometimes I work plein air (paint a scene while outside viewing it), but since my paintings take so long it can be tough to complete in one sitting. So even then I’ll take a picture to work from to finish it.

Is it hard to part with paintings when they sell?
It can be because I put of lot time and care into them. I have a professional photo taken of all of my artwork so that makes it easier, I can always visit the photo.

Where is your studio?
My studio is in my home in Plymouth. I get a lot of sunshine there, my drawing table is near sliding doors, so I get good lighting and feel close to nature. I like to listen to classical music when I paint, I love classical guitar.

What famous artists influence you?
Mostly the impressionists, Monet, Degas, Renoir, VanGogh, I also like Vermeer and Michaelangelo. I love what the impressionists do with texture and how their paintings are a different experience when viewed up close or at a distance. I love how Vermeer was able to capture light, and Michaelangelo’s precision and graceful touch is beautiful and inspiring.
